Clintonville’s dining scene is getting a bit of European flair. Rodos European Grill is almost ready to open its doors at 3369 Indianola Ave.
Rodos gets its name and inspiration from Owner Erion Permeti’s first family vacation as a child. Permeti says he’ll never forget his experience traveling to Rodos, an island off Greece, and wants to recreate that feeling for his restaurant’s patrons.
Permeti owns the restaurant along with his cousin, Klaudio Pali. From Albania, Permeti says Rodos features a menu based on where they’re from and what they know. For diners, that means authentic gyros, paninis, doners and more.
There will also be heartier dinner dishes, like chicken kebabs and ribeye, as well as starters, soups and salads. As things get rolling, Rodos will add daily specials to its menu, touring Europe with eats from Germany to France and beyond.
The restaurant will also feature a European-style coffee bar with espresso drinks, cappuccinos, coffee (very strong coffee, Permeti says) and more. It’s a come in, grab a drink, stand and sip and head out the door kind of experience.
Opening in the age of COVID, Rodos will focus primarily on carryout for now. The restaurant does include a few small tables as well as a bar area. There’s no booze yet – they’re planning to petition to get on the ballot for a liquor license early next year.
In a non-COVID world, Rodos would have opened much earlier in the year, but construction delays pushed things back. However, Permeti says they weren’t going to let the delays stop their dream.
Rodos hasn’t set a firm opening date, but is offering a few tasting previews (keep an eye on Facebook). When they do open, Rodos’ hours will be from 11 a.m – 11 p.m. daily, save any coronavirus-related restrictions.
