Lyndsay Maher is a classic Columbus “boomeranger”. She lived in the Short North for awhile, moved to Colorado for work for three years, and recently returned to Columbus. But she didn’t come back alone. While visiting Boulder, she fell in love with a shop called Rocket Fizz — a California-based retail chain which sells its own line of flavored sodas and a huge selection of candy and gifts.
“I found out that the company franchises new locations and I was ready to get out of corporate America, and everything else just aligned,” she says. “I have a deep love of candy and a deep love of fitness, and I want to bring a good local vibe to the first RocketFizz store for the state of Ohio.”
With 66 stores in 18 states, RocketFizz is a brand that has grown rapidly. Maher describes the store’s product mix as a blend of nostalgic flavors and modern candies that will provide everyone from ages three to 103 with something unique to taste. She says that the store will contain over 500 different flavors of glass-bottled soda, 90 flavors of taffy and over 2,000 different types of candy.
“There’s a big craze for Japanese imported candies right now,” says Maher. “So we’ll have those, British candies, Swedish chocolates and plenty of fun, funky gifts.”
The RocketFizz branded soda is made with spring water and cane sugar and flavors range wildly from sweet corn soda to ranch dressing flavored soda to peanut butter and jelly soda.
RocketFizz will be located at 944 N High Street, in the space currently occupied by GRID Furnishings, which owner Tim Friar confirmed has plans for relocation. She aims to have the new candy and soda shop open for business by December 15th with a grand opening planned for February’s Gallery Hop.
