    Land-Grant Brewing Company

Land-Grant is celebrating Earth Day by launching an all-new Sun Grant Sustainable Beer Fest and continuing their annual series of Sun-Grant beers. Named for the Sun-Grant Association, a group of Land-Grant Universities researching and developing sustainable, bio-based energy alternatives, Sun-Grant beers are made using sustainable methods and ingredients.

This year’s Helios Rustic Lager is made with local honey from the Stratford Ecological Center, as well as pilsner malt from Haus Malts in Cleveland, Michigan-sourced Triple Pearl hops, and a Kyeik yeast strain, which ferments at a lower, energy-efficient temperature.

Helios Rustic Lager will be available by the pint and in six packs of cans at the Land-Grant taproom on Earth Day, Monday, April 22. For every pint and six-pack sold, $2 will go to the brewery’s Sun-Grant Fund, which subsidizes any equipment upgrades, building improvements, and other changes to reduce their environmental impact. Their 2018 Sustainability and Community report will be published with the release of Helios.

The Sun-Grant Sustainable Beer Fest will take place in Land-Grant’s solar powered beer garden on May 4, from 3 to 8 p.m. Other local and national breweries will also attend to showcase their sustainable beers, including Jackie O’s, HiHo, Little Fish, MadTree, Warped Wing, Wolf’s Ridge, Woolly Pig, and Sierra Nevada. Tickets are $35 in advance or $40 day-of.
