Restaurant Roundup: News from Food Hall, Pies & Pints, Crimson Cup & more

Columbus has so many new restaurants, expansions, menu updates and other changes, sometimes it’s hard to keep up with everything. That’s why our Restaurant Roundup series was designed to keep you informed with the latest and greatest updates. Here’s what’s new in the local dining scene:

    Food Hall

The Short North Food Hall now has an almost entirely new lineup of food options. Original tenants Legacy Smokehouse, Short Grain Sushi and Tortilla Mexican Street Food are out, and in has come Palle by Moretti and Uncle Drew’s Chicken. The replacement for Short Grain Sushi has yet to be found.

Legacy Smokehouse, which recently opened a spot on Greenlawn and will open another location in Hilliard, vacated their space at Food Hall to focus on these new projects, according to a post on Instagram.

Along with these changes, Vinny’s Pizza now shares space with Uncle Drew’s serving up a limited pizza menu at that station.

    Pies & Pints

The Short North location of Pies & Pints closed its doors earlier this week. The pizzeria opened up inside the Fireproof Records building at 780 N. High St. in 2015. It was one of three central Ohio locations for the franchise. The other two in Easton (4205 Easton Gateway Dr.) and Worthington (7227 Worthington Pl.) remain open.

The closure of Pies & Pints in the Short North leaves 13 locations for the chain, which has expanded to Alabama, Indiana, Kentucky, Virginia and West Virginia.

Ray Ray’s Hog Pit & Mikey’s Late Night Slice

Fans of the two local establishments will be happy to hear they’ll be joining forces for a new menu item: Ray Ray’s Hawg Life Pizza. Made with pork shoulder, pork belly burnt ends, hot links, roasted red pepper, and Carolina-style barbecue sauce, the pizza comes on a fire slat crust and is topped with crushed pork rinds.

It’ll be available for one week this summer, Monday, August 20 through Sunday, August 26. For those who want an early taste, Mikey’s Late Night Slice at 268 S. Fourth St. will hold a special ticketed event on Sunday, August 19. Tickets are now on sale and will include Land-Grant Brewing sponsored drink tickets and an all-you-can-eat pizza buffet.

    Crimson Cup Coffee & Tea

For those who’d like to try their hand at brewing expresso at home, Crimson Cup is offering a course on it. Debuting on September 8, and running from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the course will take place at Crimson Cup’s Innovation Lab, at 700 Alum Creek Dr.

“Espresso at Home” is just one of the courses the Innovation Lab offers, along with “Coffee Education” and “Coffee Brewing Basic.”

    Chick-fil-A

The fried chicken franchise opens up its restaurant near The Ohio State University on Thursday, August 16. Those who would like a chance to win free Chick-fil-A for a year can show up a day earlier, though, at 6 a.m.

This store, located at 1924 High Street, will make the eighth for the chain in Columbus.
