The housing committee of the Weinland Park Community Civic Association has given the go-ahead to a 315-unit development at the northeast corner of East Fifth Avenue and North Fourth Street.

Renderings of the project that were shared with the committee show commercial space along Fifth Avenue featuring large windows and room for outdoor seating. The building’s Fourth Street side is residential-only and, according to the submitted materials, designed to complement existing buildings across the street.

The two portions of the project are joined by a two-level connector that cars will be able to drive under in order to access the parking garage.

Also approved at the housing committee meeting was a proposal from Marker Development to build a six-story building just down the street, at 266-300 E. Fifth Ave. That development, which also will contain it’s own structured parking, will have ground-level retail with five floors of apartments above.

Both proposals will head to the zoning committee of the University Area Commission next week before moving on to the full commission for a vote.

A restaurant could take up some of the building’s 15,000 square feet of commercial space.
