Red, White and Yoga! Modo Yoga Celebrates Two Years

Less than a mile from Downtown Columbus, Modo Yoga is well-placed for a view of Red, White and Boom. For the second year, the owners of Modo Yoga will have a yoga class and fireworks party on July 3. This year, Modo is also celebrating their two-year anniversary with $2 yoga and other specials, and they are leading yoga at the Clippers’ stadium this July.

“Our focus at Modo Yoga Columbus is our local community and supporting this terrific town we are in!” says Columbus native Elizabeth Moore who moved back here from Cincinnati to start Modo with her business partner, Chad Underwood. Besides their popular hot yoga classes in their lovely studio (which has showers), they have a fun yoga-plus-tacos series at the Cosecha Cocina patio.

Today, Thursday, June 29 thru Friday, June 30, Modo Yoga will have a two-day party to celebrate their two-year anniversary. There will be teachers’ choice classes with $2 drop-in fees and other fun events including a Land Grant beer tasting after the 6 p.m. Friday Flow class on June 30.

The Modo location on Dublin Road between Grandview and downtown Columbus has a great view of Monday’s Red, White and Boom and a good amount of parking. That evening, for $40, Modo is having a Freedom Flow class followed by a leisurely barbecue party until the fireworks. It is a family-friendly event with a dinner-only option for $20.

Later in July will be yoga at the Clippers’ stadium. Sunday, July 23, enjoy a class on the grass in center field for $20. The fee includes admission to the Clippers’ game at 4 p.m. that afternoon. Check in is at 11 a.m. and yoga starts at noon. Tickets must be purchased in advance on the Modo website. The event is rain or shine.

“It’s going to be a great time!” said Underwood.

Modo (known in Canada as Moksha) Yoga was started in Ontario by yoga teachers who wanted a friendly, supportive hot yoga program. The studios must meet high environmental standards and emphasis Seven Pillars of healthy, peaceful living. Underwood and Moore practiced at Modos in Cincinnati before moving to Columbus.

The teacher training (TT) program at Modo is unique in that graduates become part of a worldwide network of teachers who can visit Modo & Moksha studios in Seattle, Toronto, Sydney, and other locations based on availability.

“We consider ourselves very fortunate to be a local studio with access to an internationally run training with unparalleled faculty that brings people together from all over the world,” says Moore. “Following completion of Level 1 training, teachers are able to travel if they like and some do. All of us enjoy taking classes at Modo studios when we are traveling near one!”

Modo Yoga TT is an immersive, month-long 300-hour experience followed by 200 hours in the local community living the Seven Pillars.

“When we’re looking for teachers, we always want students who are members of our studio community before going to training so we know they are compatible with us,” says Moore.

Modo Yoga is located at 1042 Dublin Rd. The studio has nice cork floors, warm studios (usually 85 degrees plus), multiple showers in two large men and women’s changing rooms and a gender-neutral restroom.
