Seattle-based brewery and restaurant RAM announced plans yesterday to open their first Ohio location at the corner of High Street and First Avenue in the redeveloped Donatos building. Mike Fitzpatrick, President of Elford Development, confirmed over the phone that the brewery will be the second of three retail tenants announced for the Short North building.

“They were in the market looking for space as we were working on the preliminary side of project,” said Fitzpatrick. “The fact that they brew on-site made us think that it would be a unique addition to the Short North.”

In January, Donatos announced that their Black Brick Bar concept would coexist with their new Donatos store, adding a craft-beer-and-live-music-venue to the property. Fitzpatrick says that the businesses will compliment each other well. The RAM Restaurant & Brewery will take up approximately 10,000 square feet in the building, though some of that space will be dedicated to production. The rooftop will also feature a 2,000 square foot outdoor patio.

We’re hoping to break ground in late spring or early summer, and phasing our construction to keep Donatos open the whole time,” said Fitzpatrick. “So construction will go a little slower than typical — this will probably be a six to eight month project.”

A final tenant has yet to be announced for the remaining 800 square feet of retail space between RAM and Black Brick. Fitzpatrick anticipates that it will likely be a smaller speciality retailer or office space due to the size.
