PSA: Downtown Street Sweeping Ramps Up This Summer

The Department of Public Service has an important message for anyone who regularly parks their cars on the street Downtown: move your car during street sweeping hours so that you don’t get towed. Starting in the early hours of Monday, April 6th, Downtown street sweeping will become a weekly activity, as requested by Downtown residents and business owners.

“Downtown is now more vibrant with more activities, entertainment, housing and businesses,” explained Department of Public Service Director Tracie Davies. “So we must work together to keep litter and debris off the streets.”

While Downtown street sweeping is not a new activity, the increase in frequency this year might catch some off guard who are not used to the new hours. Updated signage has been posted to remind those who park to be aware of the following street cleaning schedule:

    • Mondays, 12:01 a.m. – 6 a.m.: Sweeping on the south sides of streets that run east-west and on the east sides of streets that run north-south
    • Tuesdays, 12:01 a.m. – 6 a.m.: Sweeping on the north sides of streets that run east-west and on the west sides of streets that run north-south

“Downtown’s residential population is growing quickly,” said Cleve Ricksecker, Executive Director of the Discovery and Capital Crossroads Special Improvement Districts. “Residents need access to on-street parking overnight, but the City also needs to be able to sweep streets regularly and efficiently. Alternate side of the street parking on Mondays and Tuesdays is a proven, big-city way of accommodating both.”
