Over 30 Short North galleries, boutiques, shops, salons and restaurants are gearing up for the Short North Arts District Holiday season, and official activities are set to take place from Saturday, Nov. 24 to Monday, Dec. 31.

One participating business is opening its doors just in time for the holiday rush. Prologue Bookshop began construction at 841 N. High St. earlier this year and originally planned to open in October. Dan Brewster, a former software engineer turned bookshop owner, says the shop’s new opening date on Wednesday, Nov. 21 wasn’t quite what he was going for, but is great timing all the same.

“There’s a lot of unexpected things that happen as far as any construction project and working with permits. Luckily we have a great team working on it, and we’ve been able to keep things moving,” says Brewster. “We want to make sure that people have access to all of the great books and gift items that we have, so that they can share them with family and friends over the holidays.”

The shop will open just days before Small Business Weekend, which kicks off the Short North Arts District’s holiday season. Also included in festivities are Holiday Hop, a district tree lighting, and a Short North Arts District Holiday Trail.

On Small Business Weekend, Saturday, Nov. 24 and Sunday, Nov. 25, visitors can enter to win a free $100 parking meter gift card by posting their purchases on Instagram with the #shortnorthpole and tagging the business.

This year’s Holiday Hop on Saturday, Dec. 1 will include the District’s Tree Lighting in Poplar Park, hosted by Nina West and NBC4’s Monica Day. The day will also include a performance by the Columbus Gay Men’s Chorus, photos with Santa during the Holiday Hop Pop-Up, and a holiday window display contest.

The Short North Arts District is also introducing the all-new Holiday Trail. From Saturday, Dec. 1 to Monday, Dec. 31, visitors can pick up a trail map and shop the participating Short North businesses. After collecting stickers from five business, participants can redeem their map at Le Meridien Columbus, The Joseph Hotel’s restaurant, or receive a $50 parking meter gift card.

Short North Arts District holiday activities begin Saturday, Nov. 24, on Small Business Saturday. For more information on all the festivities, visit shortnorth.org.
