Preview: Outasight at A&R Music Bar

Outasight will open the show for The Ready Set tonight at A&R Music Bar. The Yonkers, New York native and I spoke about his upcoming tour while en route to Boston to perform the second date on the 20+ shows scheduled tour. Talking with Outasight aka Richard Andrew was exactly like talking to the number one person one would call to forget the going’s on of daily life. Outasight combines his love of hip-hop with dance and pop beats to get everyone out of their seats. Most notably, Outasight’s single, “Tonight is the Night”, was featured in commercials for Pepsi and Honda, and was performed on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and the X-Factor.

Briana Henry: How did the concept come about for “I’ll Drink to That”?

Outasight: For me, I just remember walking in the rain trying to clear my head. The song is about being proud of where you’re from, and where you came from. New York is my home and I wanted to give it that tribute.

BH: Do you have plans to play any festivals this summer?

Outasight: All 44 shows at the warped tour…I hear that’s a travelling circus.

Besides “blasting gangsta rap” and trying not to drink too much before performances, Outasight mostly listens to 2 Chainz (a staple in my home) and ASAP Rocky while on the road, as well as using Spotify as a resource to find new music. His last performance in Columbus was in October at The Newport in support of 3OH!3. Even after I completed rattling of my questions, Outasight and I continued our conversation about music. I sited, with his approval, my latest obsession with Kendrick Lamar and how amazing it was that Dizee Rascal, a British rap artist, is opening up for Muse. Andrews’ obvious love for music, specifically hip-hop is apparent and genuine.

Celebrate Outasight’s 30th birthday (his birthday was on Sunday) tonight at A&R Music Bar. Tickets are still available for $15. Also performing tonight are The Ready Set, Master Shortie, and Goldhouse.
