This Saturday, join Heather Evans in a celebration of 10 years as an artist as well as the release of her latest effort, “Out of the Woods”. I spoke with Heather about her latest release as well as her experience singing the national anthem before President Obama’s campaign speech in Schiller Park.

With a focus on human trafficking, Evan’ music takes us on a journey of a girl who is caught in human trafficking. Referring the name of the album, Evans says, “You know how doctors say you are not out of the woods, you’re not quite healed up? There’s hope.” Her career started off writing “emo, heartbreak songs”, but notes a shift over the years towards writing music to help organizations. “I’m really passionate about raising awareness about human trafficking.”

In September, Heather Evans lead a crowd of 5000+ people in singing the national anthem before President Obama’s speech in Schiller Park. It was surreal singing the National Anthem for the president, and I wasn’t sure if I was allowed or not, but I invited everyone to sing along with me. It was so cool!! I had a huge smile on my face as 5,000+ people sang along with me to the national anthem.”

Check out the emotional music video of Evan’s title track on her new album, “Out of the Woods”.

Performing with Evans are The Joshua House band. The Castros and Mike Wojniak are also on the bill.  There will also be an after party from Alon Auguste at Woodlands Tavern in Grandview.
