PowerPhilanthropy Friday: Columbus, Not What You Thought (video)

The world is coming to Columbus and every week we add more than 300 people to our community. It is the only city in Ohio where more people are moving in than moving out. This fact only scratches the surface of the many changes that are taking place in Columbus. Michael Wilkos, senior officer in Community Research and Grants Management at The Columbus Foundation, recently shared a TED-style talk on these changes during the Foundationā€™s annual Celebration of Philanthropy.

ā€œAs a smart and open city we must use what we know about how the community is changing and turn our perceived weaknesses into strengths,ā€ Michael Wilkos said.

Wilkos, named Columbusā€™ #1 Fan by Columbus Monthly, has a special knack for breaking down and presenting data in an accessible manner. In the presentation (video below), he creates a story out of shifts in the foreign-born population, opportunity maps, suburbanization of poverty, and more.

ā€œDemographic shifts have culturally changed us forever,ā€ Wilkos said.
