Poll: Bucks, not pros, get Ohio fans’ heart

Ohioans love the Cleveland Cavaliers and Browns, but even those professional franchises must step aside for the Ohio State University Buckeyes when it comes to igniting fans’ passion, a new poll has found.
The Quinnipiac University Polling Institute on Monday released the findings of a poll that gauged Ohioans’ hometown sports team preferences. Among the state’s pro football, basketball and baseball franchises, the Cleveland Browns emerged as the favorite with 24 percent support.
In match-ups by sport, the Indians topped the Reds with the support of 51 percent of Ohioans, compared to 34 percent for the Cincinnati team. The Browns pasted the Bengals by a wider margin – 55 percent to 30 percent.
But OSU’s football and men’s basketball teams won out over the pros. And not just in scarlet-and-gray crazy Central Ohio. Of the 1,342 Ohioans surveyed Aug. 5-11, 58 percent said they root harder for the football Bucks than they do their favorite pro team.
