Plant Shop STUMP Opening Second Store
Curated plant shop STUMP is growing. The second store will be located in a 560 square foot space in German Village at 220 Thurman Avenue.
“We love spending time in German Village, whether it’s sitting down for breakfast and coffee at one of the delicious bakeries, or grabbing lunch and taking our dog for a walk in Schiller Park,” says Emily Brown, who co-owns STUMP with Brian Kellett. “Walking the streets of German Village, it’s clear that the community values plants and greenery, and we are eager to help residents create a similar experience inside their homes.”
Emily Brown and Brian Kellett opened their first store last September on the Italian Village/Weinland Park border and have found a warm welcome for their plant selections, modern pottery options, and education based sales approach where each plant comes with a care card.
“From the early stages of conceptualizing our shop, the educational component to the plant buying experience was our priority,” says Brown. “Our other key goal was make a shop that connected plants to the community through small events & workshops. Even before we opened our Italian Village location we knew that keeping the shop small and relatively ‘cozy and inviting’ would be important so we would have to likely open multiple shops rather than one large shop like most “garden centers” do.”
They have found that their top selling items include larger plants such as cacti, fiddle leaf figs, and dracaenas, as well as other lower-light plants with flexible lighting and watering needs. Brown and Kellett have delivery options and offer home and business consultations.
The two shops will have a similar look, although the inventory at German Village will reflect the smaller size of the space. Brown and Kellett designed the store’s facade themselves. With some help of a general contractor, they will also be doing much of the interior work.
“To all who say ‘I kill my plants’, we are here for you and look forward to helping you find plants that fit your home/office lighting scenario as well as your lifestyle.”
The second location will be close to the second location of the Fox in the Snow Cafe, announced last month.
Brown and Kellett plan for the German Village store to open in mid-December, likely with hours similar to their current store: Monday & Tuesday – By appointment only; Wednesday, Thursday & Friday 12-6; Saturday 11-6; Sunday 12-5. Their hours may change with the opening of neighboring businesses.
Currently, you can find STUMP at 305 East 5th Avenue, Columbus, OH, 43201. For more information, visit stumpplants.com.
