Plan brewing for Antioch College spinoff
From Business First of Columbus:
Antioch College alumni are kicking off the new year with their latest attempt to revive the Yellow Springs school – and this one might work.
The school’s parent, Antioch University, on Tuesday announced that it approved a letter of intent with alumni group Antioch College Continuation Corp. that calls for the $6.5 million sale of the school. Antioch shut down in the summer of 2008, a move that affected 200 students and more than 100 faculty and staff.
The alumni group fought hard to stave off the temporary closing of the financially troubled liberal arts school, mounting a high-profile campaign and raising millions of dollars. After successfully working with the university to temporarily call off the closure with plans for a possible transfer of power, talks collapsed in early 2008 and the board reiterated its decision to close.
