The U.S. Women’s National Team returned to MAPFRE Stadium on Thursday evening as an impressive Carli Lloyd captained the team to a 3-2 win over Sweden.
Lloyd opened the scoring early in the first half and then provided the assist for Christen Press to double the U.S. lead before Lloyd scored her second of the evening with a delightful chip over stranded Swedish ‘keeper, Lindahl.
The U.S. let their dominance slip late in the second half as Anna Anvegard pulled two goals back for Sweden and Lloyd missed a penalty, but the home team held on for a first victory for new boss, Vlatko Andonovski.
