The United States men’s national team played their first game at Lower.com Field on Wednesday evening when they defeated Costa Rica 2-1 to put themselves back on course for the 2022 World Cup.
The USMNT were missing a host of key players as former Columbus Crew boss, Gregg Berhalter, fielded a young team while also handing goal keeping duties back to another former Crew player, Zack Steffan and a late appearance from current Crew forward, Gyasi Zardes.
Costa Rica took a shock lead after just one minute, but USMNT managed to fight back with goals from Sergino Dest and an own goal from the Costa Rica ‘keeper after some good work from Tim Weah inside the box.
The USMNT will next face up against old foes Mexico in Cincinnati on November 12.
