It’s been a loooooong 16 months of cancelled tours, live streams, socially distanced shows and the occasional drive-in experience. Yet, for PromoWest it’s been total silence across the company’s ever-growing list of venues since lockdown put the breaks on most touring bands.
Thankfully, those 16 months of silence came to an end on Friday evening as a sold out crowd swarmed back to the iconic Express Live! lawn to welcome Americana folk-rockers The Avett Brothers.
The Brothers, Seth and Scott (along with Bob Crawford, Joe Kwon and touring members Tania Elizabeth and Bonnie Avett-Rini) proved to be exactly the right band to re-open concert season as a mild mid-summer evening became the perfect backdrop for the band’s emotionally-charged, duel-vocal bluegrass delights.
No opening band was needed as the eager crowd was ready to let loose once The Avett Brothers walked out on stage to a welcoming roar, but it wasn’t until thumping radio hit “Kick Drum Heart” that the crowd upped the noise and really started to remember the live music experience we’ve all been without for far too long.
