Photos: New Via Vecchia Winery Under Construction on South Side

When winery and event venue Via Vecchia announced an expanded space at a new location in November, co-owners Michael Elmer and Paolo Rosi said they hoped the space would help revitalize The Fort, as well as the South Side.

Construction is still well underway. The winery is currently booking hard hat tours and tastings in its temporary production space, but already has several events booked for May and June.

Via Vecchia has a number of concerts booked for the new venue, which will have balcony space for VIP seating, photo booths, and other uses.
The guest suite/prep room will have wall to wall mirrors and a private bathroom.

Elmer said an important addition to Via Vecchia’s new space is the guest nursing room, which gives every parent access to baby-changing stations. “It’s not required with event spaces, but I think it should be,” he said.

The winery’s future production space, adjacent to the venue’s courtyard, opening in 2020.
The door and window on the right will be converted to a glass garage door, as seen in the winery’s rendering below.

The 6,000 square foot event space will fit a 225 table seated occupancy, with an overall occupancy approaching 325 people.

A previous version of this article incorrectly stated the space shown in the fifth picture would be Via Vecchia’s temporary production space. It is actually Via Vecchia’s future production space. Additionally, the door and window shown in photo 7 will be converted into a glass garage door, not a large window, and the event space shown in photo 9 has an overall occupancy of 325 people, not 350. It will have a table-seated occupancy of 225 people.
