If you’ve lived in Columbus for more than a minute then you’ve probably listened to CD102.5, and if you’ve listened to CD102.5, then you’ve probably heard of Matt and Kim, and as it’s really, really hard to dislike Matt and Kim, you’ve probably seen Matt and Kim live. But if you haven’t (why not?), then on Saturday night you just missed another chance to feel the euphoria of the indie-dance duo as they performed another break-neck set of smile-inducing, sing-along pop gems.
Unlike previous visits to Columbus, Matt and Kim are embarking on an album anniversary tour for their second album, Grand, and promptly kick off the evening with fan-favorite “Daylight,” that happily set the tone for the evening as Matt Johnson bounced around on his seat while partner in life and music Kim Schifino, and her I’mSoFuckingHappyRightNow smile, pounded away at her minimalist drum kit.
Thirty-ish minutes of music, dancing, a slide show and a sneaky flash and we’re all done with the anniversary. A quick break later and it’s back to the music with the best of Matt and Kim from the duo’s other five studio albums.
To be honest, there isn’t much I can say about Matt and Kim that I haven’t said before. This isn’t a band that’s going to evolve much; this isn’t a band that’s going to change the world with their music. What they are, and what they absolutely excel at, is making sure that every single person in the room is having the greatest night of their lives. And for most people, that should be more than enough.
