Columbus Crew SC finally snapped out of their miserable two-month winless streak on Saturday night, as Josh Williams and David Accam scored to give Crew SC a 2-1 victory over Montreal Impact at MAPFRE Stadium.
Williams opened the scoring early in the first half when he beat Montreal ‘keeper Evan Bush to a Wil Trapp free kick and diverted the ball into the goal.
Montreal leveled the score just before half time with a goal from Zakaria Diallo.
David Accam picked up his first Crew SC goal shortly after the break, after breaking the offside trap and slotting the ball into the net. The goal was originally ruled out but a brief VAR review showed the Crew SC player to be onside and the referee awarded the goal.
Things got worse for Montreal shortly after Bacary Sagna was shown
a straight red card. The referee ruled he’d prevented a clear goalscoring opportunity by dragging down Accam as he looked to be free on goal.
With the lead, and a player advantage, Crew SC were able to hold on for the remainder of the game to take their fourth point of the week, after Wednesday’s draw at Chicago.
Columbus are on the road next week, for a Saturday game against New York Red Bulls.
