An emotional half-time celebration for former Columbus Crew SC manager, Sigi Schmid, culminated with the induction of the late 2008 MLS Championship winning Schmid into the Crew Circle of Honor in front of Sigi’s family. Around 17,000 Crew fans showed their appreciation on a hot and humid Saturday night at MAPFRE Stadium.
There was also a game that took place, as Crew SC tasted defeat again, this time at the hands of Orlando, as a goal in each half saw the visitors walk away with a 0-2 victory.
Orlando’s Chris Mueller opened the scoring with his team’s one and only shot on goal in the first half, when he poked the ball into the goal after being set up by Nani.
Crew SC would have chances to equalize, and statistically lead the game, but couldn’t find a way to get the ball into the Orlando goal.
Tesho Akindele doubled Orlando’s lead in the 68th minute with a well taken shot from just outside the box.
Crew SC have a quick turn around with two games in the next seven days. First up at Real Salt Lake on Wednesday, before returning to MAPFRE for next Saturday’s game against Seattle.
