Photos: Columbus Crew vs. Seattle Sounders FC
Ouch. This one hurt. Defeat snatched from the jaws of victory and a reminder of how cruel football can be as Columbus Crew once again tasted defeat. This time at the hands of the Seattle Sounders.
The Crew came into the game on the back of five straight defeats, confidence within the team looking low and once again missing the goal-scoring talents of the injured Gyasi Zardes. It wasn’t the best way to prep for a game against high-flying Seattle, but Columbus held their own and looked more solid than in recent weeks. Eloy Room once again proved his worth in the Crew goal with a series of fine saves.
With 77 minutes gone, the Crew looked like they were going to turn their season around as Bradley Wright-Phillips finally picked up his first goal with a typical poachers goal.
However, it wasn’t to be for Columbus as an end of game capitulation saw Seattle score two goals in two minutes. First, Xavier Arreaga levelled the game and then, agonizingly for Crew fans, Will Bruin put the knife in with a well placed strike.
Next up for Columbus is probably their biggest game of the year, as FC Cincinnati come up 71 for the “Hell is Real” derby.
