Columbus Crew SC were unable to capitalize on Wednesday evening’s 3-1 drubbing of LA Galaxy as neighbors Los Angeles FC came to MAPFRE Stadium on Saturday to walk away with a 3-0 victory.
Mark-Anthorny Kaye opened the scoring in the 37th minute with a cushioned finish, while Adama Diomande and Carlos Vela picked up goals in the 88th and 90th minutes to extend LA’s lead.
Columbus looked like they’d found a way back into the game in the 74th minute, but Gyasi Zardes’ goal didn’t stand, and the Crew SC forward was offside.
Crew SC started the game without goalkeeper Zack Steffen (injured). Playmaker Federico Higuain came on as a second half substitute, along with new signing David Accam as the home team looked to improve on their currently lacking penetration in the final third of the field.
Columbus Crew SC next face Minnesota United on the road, next Saturday, at 8 p.m.
