A massive win for Columbus Crew SC on Sunday afternoon as Artur and super-sub Krisztian Nemeth scored to take all the points from Eastern leaders, Philadelphia Union.
Crew SC took the lead late in the first half with a well-taken strike from outside the box that skipped along the turf past `keeper Joe Bendik and into the bottom corner of the Union goal.
Chilly temperatures and the odd snow flurry made for a game where both teams made mistakes, and in the 57th minute, Crew SC captain Jonathan Mensah’s clumsy block in the box gifted Philadelphia with a penalty that Jamiro Monteiro converted to level the score.
Crew goalkeeper Eloy Room came up with a handful of big saves to keep the Union at bay as the visitors pushed for a winner.
Crew brought on Nemeth in the 83rd minute and within 60 seconds and the forward’s first touch, he won the game for Columbus by sliding onto a cross from another substitute, Luis Diaz.
Columbus Crew SC now sits in third place in the East and fourth place overall as the regular season comes to end next Sunday, November 8 with a visit from Atlanta United.
