Columbus Crew SC got back to winning ways on Wednesday night as a Lucas Zelarayan goal helped best the Philadelphia Union 1-0 to put Columbus back on top of the Eastern Conference.
A handful of friends and family returned to the MAPFRE stands to help add a little noise to the mostly empty stadium as both Columbus and Philadelphia traded attacks in a fairly even game.
Zelerayan’s game winning strike came in the 55th minute when the Crew playmaker’s long-range strike took a wicked deflection off of Union’s Mark McKenzie and flew into the goal, past a rooted Andre Blake.
Philadelphia put on some late pressure, but the Crew SC backline remained steadfast and the home team were able to see out the game to claim all three points.
Next up comes FC Cincinnati, this coming Sunday, September 6 for the next edition of the “Hell is Real” derby.
