Columbus Crew SC’s playoff march continues onwards to the Eastern Semi-Final after a frantic 3-2 win over the visiting New York Red Bulls at MAPFRE Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Caden Clark drew first blood with the opening Red Bulls goal to stun Crew SC during a scrappy first half as neither side were able to find their rhythm.

Pedro Santos leveled the score a few minutes later when he was able to convert a spot-kick and end the the half on even terms.

Columbus came out with all guns blazing in the second half and within a minute, Darlington Nagbe gave the home team the lead with an almost identical goal to what NYRB scored earlier.

Gyasi Zardes looked like he’d put the game to bed as Crew SC went up 3-1 after the striker’s looping header found its way into the Red Bulls’ goal, yet Brian White set up a nervous finish to make the game 3-2 in the 90th minute.

New York pushed everyone forward in the dying seconds, but Crew SC were able to hang on and set up a semi-final game against the winner of Nashville SC and Toronto with both time and location yet to be known.
