Columbus Crew SC got back to winning ways on Sunday evening after a four-game slide to beat the visiting New York City FC 3-1 at MAPFRE Stadium.

Crew SC midfielder Artur opened the scoring in the 26th minute when the Brazilian found himself in the right place at the right time to pick up a loose ball in the NYCFC box and slot the ball under ‘keeper Sean Johnson’s legs and into the goal.

Despite a late first-half surge from NYCFC in what became a very open game, Crew SC were able to go into the break in the lead and it didn’t take long before they doubled their advantage with a very well taken Pendro Santos goal.

NYCFC pulled a goal back to make things interesting shortly after when Valentin Castellanos poked the ball home from a corner kick.

Gyasi Zardes finished off the job for the home side in stoppage time after Artur was fouled in the box, resulting in a Crew SC penalty.

Zardes stepped up to take the kick, and, as usual for Columbus, missed the spot-kick yet was able to tap in the follow-up from Johnson’s save.

Columbus Crew SC are next in action on Saturday, October 24 with a trip to Houston Dynamo.
