It was another home win for Columbus Crew SC on Saturday night as they extended their lead atop the Eastern conference with a hard-earned 2-0 defeat over first-time visitors to MAPFRE Stadium, Nashville SC.
A goal-less first half came and went with Crew SC asking most of the questions but failing to capitalize on a handful of goalscoring opportunities as neither side were able to register a shot on goal.
Pedro Santos broke the deadlock early on in the second half with a well taken drive from just inside the box after a slipped-in ball from Gyasi Zardes down the left side.
Nashville responded well and pressured the Crew SC backline, but the usual solid Crew SC defensive line and a key save from ‘keeper, Eloy Room kept the home team’s lead intact.
Zardes sealed the contest in stoppage time with an improvised flick at the near-post that managed to find its way into the Nashville goal.
Columbus Crew SC are now five from five at home, with zero goals conceded as they go into Wednesday’s game at MAPFRE against Minnesota United.
