Photos: Columbus Crew SC vs. FC Cincinnati
Three second-half goals secured another victory for Columbus Crew SC as the third 2020 Hell is Real derby took place at MAPFRE Stadium on Sunday evening.
A small selection of fans were allowed back for the first time since March as both Crew SC and the visiting FC Cincinnati got off to a slow start that played out in similar fashion to the 0-0 draw a week ago as neither team looked like scoring.
Crew SC finally took the lead in the 52nd minute after Pedro Santos pounced on a Luis Diaz cross and slotted his driving shot into the Cincinnati goal.
Gyasi Zardes came off the bench in the 62nd minute, two minutes later doubled the Crew SC lead and shortly after that put the game truly to bed with his second of the night after pouncing on his own deflected shot.
The 3-0 win puts Columbus clear at the top of the Eastern Conference and Supporters’ Shield race with only two goals conceded in ten games.
Next up comes a road trip to Chicago for an early afternoon game with the Fire on Saturday, September 12 at 3:30 p.m.
