A half-time reunion of the Columbus Crew’s 2008 MLS Cup winning team was the highlight of the evening, as Crew SC were held to a fairly lacklustre, goalless draw by Philadelphia Union as the push continues towards this years MLS play-offs.

Crew SC could’ve put some breathing room between themselves and the visiting Union with a win, however the home side only managed two shots on goal the entire game. One came in during the dying moments of the game, when Harrison Afful’s strike was brilliantly saved by Philly ‘keeper Andre Blake.

Philadelphia did manage to put the ball into the net in the first half. But the always controversial VAR system came to Crew SC’s rescue, and the goal was ruled out after review.

A handful of old favorites returned to MAPFRE Stadium at halftime to celebrate the team that cliched the club’s only MLS trophy win 10 years ago. Coach Sigi Schmid was joined by his assistant and successor, Robert Warzycha and a selection of cult-heroes including Robbie Rogers, Andy Gruenebaum, Gino Padula and the always smiling Steven Lenhart.

Next up for Columbus is a road trip over the border for a visit to Montreal on Saturday, Oct. 6.
