Car Seat Headrest came through town on a dismally wet Sunday night to bring their low-fi indie rock to a sold-out Newport Music Hall.

Car Seat Headrest spawned from the humble beginnings of home and car seat solo recordings of singer and chief writer, Will Toledo. In recent years they’ve blossomed into a full touring band, as Toledo’s music continues to pick up critical acclaim that’s seeing the band sell out venues across the country. They’re currently touring on their latest release, “Twin Fantasy (Face to Face).”

Opening the evening were Seattle’s Naked Giant, who played out an epic, loud, and energetic set of pounding guitar slacker-rock before taking a quick break to merge into the supergroup that currently performs as Car Seat Headrest.

With a six-piece rock orchestra behind him, Toledo is now freed up to focus on his underplayed vocal delivery and slightly dodgy dance moves. His touring band of layered guitars gave a bit more heft to the songs that make up Toledo’s already impressive back catalog, which had the rain-soaked Newport crowd singing along to every word.

Here’s some photos from the evening, just in case you decided to miss out on this sleeper band due to the endless rains of this past weekend.
