Lights, Camera, Action!

SNAP! Performance Productions is a high energy, performing arts group whose members use their talents and love of entertaining to improve the lives of others. This talented group of singers, dancers and performers volunteer their time working countless hours to create thrilling performances to raise money for Columbus charities that help and empower the youth of central Ohio.

Co-founded in Columbus by Lynette Shy, SNAP!, which stands for Serving Non-Profit Associations by Performing, was born in May on 2003. Being a dancer, Lynette wanted to utilize her talents to their fullest potential by combing her love of performing with helping others, especially youth. After careful planning and a great deal of help, SNAP! blossomed into a performing arts group that currently has over 50 members from all over central Ohio.

Each year, SNAP! performs an annual show to benefit a local charity that works with children. The charity is chosen through a proposal process that is submitted to the board of directors. Once the proposals are received research is carried out to see if SNAP! would be a good fit for the organization. This year the 2009 Spring Show, SNAP! Shots, will support St. Vincent Family Centers and runs from May 7th through May 9th at the Abbey Theater in Dublin. Some seats are still available.

Every show is entirely cast driven from concept to performance. Once a concept is decided upon the preparation and production begins. Open auditions to join SNAP! are held each December for anyone over the age of 18. After the volunteer cast has been selected, SNAP! holds a round of internal solo and ensemble auditions. This gives all active cast members the opportunity to try out for any feature roles. Full rehearsals begin in the middle of January and run every Sunday until May. Rehearsals can take anywhere from two to eight hours, depending on how many numbers each cast member is in. Non-performers such as set builders, sound/lighting techs, hair and makeup stylists, are also needed for the success of the show and are encouraged to volunteer to help with the production. Because SNAP! is such a diverse group, they are able to tap into a wide range of professional skills such as creative writing, musical direction, marketing, and interior/fashion design. Utilizing the expertise of the cast allows SNAP! to put on a professional-quality performance while keeping costs to a minimum. Less money used for expenses means more money donated to charity.

To keep costs down and donations high, SNAP! is always looking to partner with local businesses and volunteers to create the most professional performance possible. To get involved with SNAP! visit

The Show Must Go On!

In addition to the spring show, SNAP! cast and crew provide a creative outlet for the children at St. Vincent Centers bringing the arts and theater productions to the campus throughout the year. Members also serve as volunteers to St. Vincent Family Centers when the organization needs additional assistance with various tasks.

Being a 501(c)(3), it is through the support of patrons, families and friends, along with general operating capital from The Columbus Foundation that SNAP! continues performing each year. SNAP! also generates funds by taking their act on the road a number of times throughout the year. These smaller events – known as “Mobile Shows” – include weddings, corporate retreats, community get-togethers, holiday parties and senior center activities. Mobile Shows take place all over Columbus. SNAP! is available for hire (except during show season), and performances may be customized for any event.

Break a leg!
