It can be difficult for a non-profit organization to create the attention it deserves to raise awareness for the cause, or the assistance it needs to procure in-kind items for an upcoming event, the office, or a program. It may also be confusing for a donor or business with items or services to donate to know best where to give them. Well, there is assistance out there and it is FREE.

The In-Kind Connection is a complimentary service, sponsored by columbus imPRessions, that helps non-profit organizations that need assistance accruing in-kind donations or with creating awareness. columbus imPRessions runs the web site to spread the word using various social media channels to help make a connection.

The goal of In-Kind Connection is to connect non-profit organizations to businesses and donors who can help.

How does it work? It is so easy, there are just three simple steps:

  1. Non-profit organizations email their needs for upcoming events, to enhance the program, the office or to raise awareness to [email protected]. Be sure to include the need, when it is needed, the contact person with email and/or phone number, web site and mission.
  2. Businesses email overstock items they are willing to donate to assist non-profit organizations to [email protected]. Be sure to include the have, the contact person with email and/or phone number, and company web site.
  3. After a non-profit need or a business have is posted to In-Kind Connection it is then broadcasted through various social media channels like, Twitter, Facebook, AllTop, LinkedIn, etc.

columbus imPRessions helps to make the connection. However, it is up to the non-profit organization and donor to work together to secure and exchange the items.

It does work! Connections have been made and items have been collected for organizations as far as Africa! Ubuntu Africa Child Healthcare, a nonprofit that works in the township Khayelitsha outside of Cape Town, focuses on providing health services, both medical and psycho-social, as well as a loving environment to HIV-positive children and teenagers. Because they were expanding services to include an ESL program they were looking for 100 personal chalkboards and chalk to use for their children. Their need was discovered through In-Kind Connections social media channels and the donation was made!

In-Kind Connection is just a small way of “making a difference for the greater good.” In-Kind Connection also has a Facebook page. Become a fan and help spread the greater good. Or Follow In-Kind Connections on Twitter at @InKindConnect.

In-kind Connection is a free resource to nonprofits, donors and businesses that relies entirely on word of mouth. Please kindly spread the word with others.

Philanthropy Friday is a feature article by Michele Savoldi that will highlight a Columbus area non-profit organization every other week.
