Phenix Bistro Opens on Gay Street
Phenix Bistro has opened at 51 E. Gay St. An offshoot of the nearby Cafe Phenix, the bistro opens daily for breakfast, lunch and early dinner.
Guests will need a minute to peruse the ambitious menu Phenix Bistro is putting out. Specialty sandwiches, like a Cuban, Philly cheese steak, and smoked baked salmon make an appearance, along with subs, paninis, salads, and croque sandwiches. A dedicated breakfast menu includes American, English and French breakfasts, biscuits and gravy, an egg sandwich, omelettes, waffles, pancakes, and oatmeal porridge. Everything on the menu is under $10.
Along with coffee and tea, a few coolers stand near the entrance, offering bottled sodas, juices, and water.
Similar to its previous tenants, the space allows for about 40 patrons to dine in. The interior has been updated to reflect the Phenix aesthetic, with a large mural on the back wall depicting the bird that is the restaurant’s namesake.
Phenix Bistro co-owner Gary McConnell said he was always looking to expand, but the closing of Peruvian fast casual spot Criollo created the perfectly timed (and placed) opportunity.
