Pecha Kucha Columbus Celebrates 4 Years

Pecha Kucha Columbus was founded four years ago this month. A tangy mashup of local speakers, food, music, and art, it’s held four times a year at rotating urban venues. Our next event takes place this Thursday night at the Columbus Museum of Art. Festivities kick off at 6:00 p.m. with local band Way Yes and presentations begin at 6:30. Each speaker will follow the international Pecha Kucha format of showing 20 images and speaking about each image for 20 seconds. Presenters include video artists Julia Applegate and Liv Gjestvang; Alex Bandar with The Columbus Idea Foundry; photographers Caleb and Levi Ely; Heidi Kambitsch and Rachel Rowen of OpenheartART; school planner Christian Long; architect Tim Lai; interactive expert Christoph Ono; musician Tristan Seufert; Amy Turn Sharp of Little Alouette; and Jeff Sims with the Columbus Museum of Art.

Guests of Pecha Kucha, which takes place in Derby Court, will have access to the museum’s galleries throughout the evening. Members of the OSU New Music Collective will perform during intermission. CMA’s Palette Café and Pattycake Bakery will sell refreshments, and a cash bar will be available. THOUGHTco will screen print T-shirts for guests throughout the evening ($4 for shirts brought from home and $10 to buy a new one). Nash Imaging will provide a free photo booth, and Scott Vayo of BPM Productions will deejay the event. The suggested donation is $2 per person, which benefits Pecha Kucha Columbus. Free parking is available in the museum parking lot and the State Auto lot just east of the museum.

Pecha Kucha was founded in Tokyo in 2003 as a way for architects and designers to share their work in public. It has morphed into a massive creative celebration with events in more than 380 cities worldwide. Pecha Kucha Columbus was founded in February of 2007 and this will be our 16th event.
