From the owners of Downtown’s Novak’s Tavern, The Filling Station in Powell and Yogi’s Bar & Grill in Dublin comes a new restaurant venture — the Parlor Room, which now occupies the space left behind by the Short North’s Surly Girl Saloon. The bar will be the fifth venue to open from the Columbus Tavern Group.
Co-owner Greg Tishkoff, along with partners Eric Goodman and Katie Summers, swapped out the Saloon’s pinup decor, western ambiance and Tex-Mex menu for what he describes as a speakeasy cocktail bar. The somewhat tight quarters offers an intimate atmosphere, where guests can socialize up front near the folding windows facing High or hang in back to get away from passersby and their evening chatter.
“In a few words the general feel will be intimate and comfortable,” Tishkoff said. “However, we’re placing a heavy emphasis on a see and be seen atmosphere.”
The menu, created by Chef Isaac Holzwarth, features traditional dishes like house made pizza, burgers and wings along with a few different options, like the Banh Mi sandwich, shrimp and grits, and poutine.
Catering to the interests of the typical Columbusite, the Parlor Room will also be open at brunch, serving dishes like hot chicken and waffles, “Dutch Baby Pancake” and others. And since locals love their local brews, craft beer out of Columbus and Ohio, including CBC, Rhinegeist, MadTree, North High Brewing, and Jackie O’s will be on tap.
“While we’re mindful of staying inside the lines with what we’ve all come to expect out of a new venture in this area, our hope is that the look, feel, and experience at Parlor Room will inspire a true ‘wow factor’ for our customers,” Tishkoff said. “We hope to be a bar/restaurant that means a lot of things to a lot of people for years to come.”
The next week is about last-minute details and staff training. Barring any complications, the Parlor Room will have a preview open to the public next Friday, July 29th.
