New Outdoor Movie Series Arrives Downtown This Summer

Outdoor movies are incredibly popular in Central Ohio. Last year, Columbus Underground tallied up over 80 individual outdoor movie screenings and now you’ll be able to add seven more with a new series launching soon.

Nightlight614 is being launched in June by Patrick Cline, a Columbus-native who moved away to Los Angeles seven years ago, but recently boomeranged back to his hometown. His idea for the new event series — which will take place in Genoa Park next to COSI — is to provide an option geared specifically for a Millennial audience.

“We simply wanted to add a unique social option for Columbus’s young professional crowd,” explained Cline. “We wanted to fuse creative arts into a social setting, while showcasing some amazing local things the city has to offer. It’s something fun to do for mellow night out with friends or a date.”

The event is uniquely 21+, differentiating it from many of the other more family-friendly outdoor movie outings. Nightlight614 will feature craft beer, wine, food trucks, and a fantastic view of the skyline and Scioto Mile at dusk.

As for the movies themselves, Cline has a mix of old and new popular films in the lineup. The series kicks off with Ferris Bueller, and will follow up with a few more 80s classics like Top Gun and The Goonies. On the more contemporary end, the series will show Mean Girls and The Dark Knight.

We wanted to have an array of comedy, action, and thrillers that everyone in NightLight’s demo could enjoy,” said Cline. “In 2017, we aim to utilize a platform where season pass holders can be involved in the voting process of the lineup.”

The series will kick off on June 23rd, and tickets can be pre-purchased online.
