In May, we reported that city leaders were considering a proposal to place a bond package in front of voters this November, and today that proposal was made official. Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman, the Members of City Council, and City Auditor Hugh Dorrian jointly announced a $842 million bond package that will appear as four individual bond package issues on the November 5th ballot.

“Columbus is being recognized as one of the best cities in the nation because we’ve continued to invest in our infrastructure and our quality of life,” said Mayor Coleman. “If voters support our bond package this November as they have in the past, we’ll be able to maximize our capital dollars and maintain our momentum.”

The four ballot issues will be divided up by categories that include:

    • Safety and Health ($53 million) – Designated for police and fire facilities, vehicles and equipment.
    • Recreation and Parks ($124 million) – Designated for rec centers, bike paths, pools and parks.
    • Public Service ($220 million) – Designated for street resurfacing, sidewalk improvements, bikeways, refuse vehicles and containers and other neighborhood services.
    • Public Utilities ($445 million) – Designated for the improvement of water and stormwater systems and public street lighting.

“The community input we received during the series of meetings helped shape the projects that will have a positive, lasting impact in Columbus neighborhoods,” said City Council President Andrew Ginther. “I want to thank everyone who participated and remind residents that all of these improvements will be accomplished without raising taxes.”
