If you’re looking for a combination of hip local businesses to frequent and an active real estate market, then you could do no better than the Old North neighborhood right here in Columbus.

According to a joint report by Yelp and Realtor.com, the 43202 zip code — which technically includes both the south end of Clintonville and most of Old North — had the highest combined score of any area in the country when measuring both the Yelp “Hipster Score” and Realtor.com “Market Hotness.” That means that this area has an overwhelmingly high mention of the word hipster in its business reviews, and that homes for sale in the area are selling quickly with a lot of interest.

“From dive bars to barbers, vinyl record shops to coffee shops, all kinds of businesses lay claim to the hipster name,” stated Carl Bialik, Data Editor at Yelp. “There’s no limit to the perfectly lit social snaps and artisanal snacks folks in these markets can muster.”

Old North is one of the thirteen neighborhoods that make up the larger University District, while the south end of Clintonville sits directly adjacent. Some of the popular business destinations that could be serving as a strong hipster magnet might include Hounddog’s Pizza, Yeah Me Too! Coffee, Used Kids Records, What the Rock?!, Once Ridden Bikes, Mug & Brush, Vintage Toast, Rumba Cafe, Ace of Cups, Old North Arcade, Mikey’s Late Night Slice, Blue Danube, Pattycake Bakery, Rag-O-Rama, Studio 35 and others.

According to a Realtor.com search made today for 43202, homes in the area range in price from $99,000 (for a boarded up four-bedroom in need of a complete rehab) to a $420,000 modern mid-century home on Walhalla ravine.
