As Columbus continues to be regularly recognized as one of the most gay-friendly cities in the United States, a new article from Outlook Magazine is out to remind readers that the State of Ohio continues to discriminate against its citizens with antiquated and unnecessary rules and regulations.
“Our story, written by writer Eli Johnson, is about a policy enforced by the Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board that serves to bar gay and lesbian couples from holding wedding ceremonies — or even just wedding receptions — in the building or on the Statehouse grounds,” explains Bob Vitale, Editor in Chief at Outlook Media. “Its policy, which we found to be unmatched in Indiana, Michigan and other neighboring states, requires couples to submit an in-state wedding license in order to use the building.”
This means that gay and lesbian couples are prohibited from renting the space due to Ohio’s 2004 constitutional ban of same-sex marriage. It additionally prohibits straight couples from utilizing the venue if their marriage licenses were obtained out of state.
