Ohio Now in Minority of States Without Marriage Equality

Colorado, Indiana, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Utah and Virginia all joined the ranks yesterday as states where gay marriage is now legal, marking for the first time where over 50 percent of the US population now lives in states where marriage equality has been actualized.

“But here in Ohio, we continue to wait — and tens of thousands of families continue to suffer every single day,” says Michael Premo, Campaign Manager at Why Marriage Matters Ohio. “Every day that the freedom to marry is denied in Ohio is another day that families are needlessly harmed in our state. And if anything, today underscores the urgent need for the 6th Circuit to rule on Ohio’s marriage ban and rule soon.”

Why Marriage Matters Ohio has been traveling across the state recently, hosting townhall-style gatherings to educate the public on the importance of this issue and to rally support to change the laws.

“We’re asking everybody who supports marriage equality to have those conversations with their friends and family, because that is the single most effective way that we can grow support in Ohio,” said Premo in an interview with Columbus Underground last month.
