The Ohio Deli, a southside staple at 3444 South High Street, was damaged severely in an overnight fire. Local TV news stations reported that the cause is currently unknown, and that firefighters had trouble fighting the flames in the cold weather. Police and Fire crews were still on site at 9:45am this morning, assessing the damage.

The restaurant was well known for its “Dagwood Challenge” a platter that included a two and a half pound sandwich and a pound of fries that needed to be consumed in less than 30 minutes to complete the challenge and win a tshirt and a polaroid on the wall of fame. Popular Travel Channel show Man VS Food brought the challenge to prominence in an episode that aired in December of 2008, but readers of Columbus Underground participated in a group challenge that predated the episode in March of 2008:
