WeWork Coming to ColumbusJuly 18, 2019 6:30 am Susan Post
Global flexible workspace provider WeWork will occupy the entirety of the office space at the mixed-use development at 800 N. High St. It will be the brand’s first location in Ohio.
The new coworking space will total over 46,000 square feet across floors three, four and five, offering a variety of workspaces suitable for small businesses to Fortune 500 companies.
“Columbus is an innovative city with a thriving and diverse community,” says Megan Dodds, WeWork General Manager for the Midwest. “WeWork 800 N High St., in the heart of Short North, will provide small and large businesses with the flexible workspace and global network they need to succeed and access to a neighborhood where they can take advantage of walkability and public transportation amidst some of the city’s best residential, retail, and entertainment options.”
Coworking spaces provided flexibility and amenities that allow business to easily plug and play, reducing the barrier to entry for physical space for small businesses. They also traditionally provide more flexible lease terms than a traditional office.
WeWork will share the building with a 116-room Marriott Moxy Hotel, occupying floors six through nine. The hotel will also claim the second floor as an amenity area for guests that will feature a bar and lounge.
It won’t be the only bar in the building. In another first for the city, Cleveland-based Townhall will expand its eatery to Columbus. The restaurant group is also developing a new concept for the building’s rooftop patio. More information on that concept will be announced soon.
Columbus is seeing an influx of coworking space in the Short North. The neighborhood has attracted locations from four major national brands. In addition to WeWork, Spaces recently opened its first Columbus location at 711 N. High St. Serendipity Labs brought its second Columbus location to 886 N. High St. in 2018. And, after opening its initial location at The Joseph in 2015, Industrious will open a second, larger location at 875 N. High St.
All facets of the development are projected to be open by the end of the year. Townhall and the rooftop are scheduled to open first in September, followed by the hotel in October and WeWork later in 2019.
