ODOT Unveils Artwork Concepts for Long Street Cultural Wall

The Ohio Department of Transportation held a public input meeting last night at the King Arts Complex to unveil the artist concepts for the Long Street Cultural Wall installation. The two finalists selected for public consideration include Larry Winston Collins and Kojo Kamau. The work presented by Collins includes a series of linoleum block prints of famous African Americans that either lived on the Near East Side, or had a connection to the neighborhood through performances at the Lincoln Theatre. The work displayed by Kamau includes a photo montage of people, places and events depicting the historical aspects of the neighborhood, along with educational information to accompany it. A third option was also on display, which combined images and elements from each artist in a collaborative effort.

The artists further describe their concepts in the videos below:

ODOT is seeking public comments on the artist concepts through July 6th. You can send your comments directly to [email protected], but feel free to also share your thoughts with us in the comment section below.

The completion of the Long Street Cultural Wall and public unveiling of the project is scheduled for Fall of 2013.
