North Market to Show Drive-In Movies This Summer

The North Market announced today in collaboration with the Gateway Film Center a new drive-in movie event series that will debut this May. A 30-foot tall screen will pop-up in the North Market’s parking lot on a monthly basis, making it the only Downtown Drive-In east of the Mississippi.

“Drive-in’s are incredible — they’re a part of America’s movie past, but they’re nearly all gone,” says Johnny DiLoretto, director of communications for Gateway Film Center. “Our Downtown drive-in brings back this wonderful way to see movies but in an innovative way.”

Guests will be able to tune into the movies through their car radios while designated areas will broadcast the sound from the films for those on foot or bike.

“We want to expose families to a little bit of the past,” said North Market Executive Rick Harrison Wolfe. “Kids today are not that familiar with the concept of a drive-in. This is a fun way to experience history. Our first two movies are a great night out for the family.”

The film series includes Toy Story on May 3, Ghostbusters on June 13, and Jaws on July 25. The May 3rd show starts at 8:30PM, and the other two start at 9PM.

North Market merchants will provide concessions. Tickets are $18 per vehicle or $5 for pedestrians.

“This is the perfect summer event and the perfect summer partnership,” says Chris Hamel, president, Gateway Film Center. “The Gateway Film Center is thrilled to be working with North Market to bring these modern classics to central Ohio.”
