The North Market has announced that local business American Nut Company will be joining its lineup. The new merchant will set up between Little Eater and North Market Spices, opening later this summer.

American Nut Company specializes in Bavarian glazed roasted almonds and pecans. It’s a healthier spin on the typical state fair snacks with a recipe that involves cinnamon, vanilla and a smidgen of sugar. The shop offers more than 30 handmade nut flavors in both sweet and savory.

The business recently branched out to include popcorn. Partnering with the local business Al’s Delicious Popcorn to offer additional flavors, they’ve combined their nut seasonings with Al’s popcorn to put out combinations like salted popcorn with homemade toffee peanuts. Each day at the North Market shop, a featured flavor of popcorn will be available to be purchased warm.

“To me, North Market is the heart of Columbus. The Market has the best of everything that’s local: all the wonderful people, the unique foods, small businesses, and also there’s a whole international flair,” said Lisa Robitaille, American Nut Company owner. “Everyone knows to visit North Market. Guests are truly exposed to a worldwide variety of people, foods, and culture. I am so excited for the opportunity to join the North Market merchant community.”

Robitaille started American Nut Company in 2017 by practicing recipes for family and friends. She quickly transitioned to vending for festivals and farmers markets, and she runs a stand at Polaris Fashion Place. In February of 2018, American Nut Company started as a temporary pop-up at the North Market, allowing Robitaille to get customer feedback and expand her audience.

“We are thrilled to welcome American Nut Company to the North Market family,” said North Market Executive Director Rick Harrison Wolfe, in a press release. “Lisa has been a wonderful addition for over a year as a pop-up and farmers’ market vendor. We are excited to see how she grows the business and expands her offerings once open full time at North Market.”

Once the North Market location is open, American Nut Company will launch a website, offering the option of ordering online. An expanded menu is also on the agenda, with additions such as overnight oats, yogurt parfaits, nut butters and avocado toast.

Eventually, Robitaille would like to partner with other local businesses, like breweries, wine tastings, coffee shops and other places, to offer her snacks.

Construction is now underway on the American Nut Company’s North Market stall. An opening date is set for late summer.
