North Market Downtown, 59 Spruce St., is trading one fish vendor for another.

The stall recently vacated by The Fish Guys will now be occupied by Coastal Local Seafood. The locally-based seafood operation had also previously been announced as a vendor at the new North Market Bridge Park.

Ian Holmes launched Coastal Local Seafood in 2013 to supply fresh, “pier to plate” seafood to area restaurants. As the coronavirus pandemic has closed or impacted many of the restaurants Holmes supplies, he’s turned to more consumer-facing outlets to keep his business going, including delivering direct to customers at home.

“Although the circumstances aren’t exactly how I had imagined, I have always wanted to be a part of the iconic North Market,” says Holmes. “I realize this may be a once in a lifetime opportunity and I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of this next chapter.”

It will be a quick turnaround, with Coastal Local Seafood officially opening on Friday, September 11. Holmes will operate the stall with minimal changes for now and is planning a more extensive renovation for early 2021.

“We could not be happier for Coastal Local Seafood to join our downtown merchant community, no doubt it will be central Ohio’s go-to ‘dock to table’ seafood purveyor,” says Rick Harrison Wolfe, executive director of the North Market. “Ian will also be introducing a new extensive prepared food concept we are thrilled about.”

Coastal Local Seafood will be open Wednesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m – 5 p.m.
