Nominees for the 47th Annual Ohio Valley Regional Emmy Awards Announced

Columbus is home to many talented people who are experts and telling stories. This year’s nominees for the 47th Annual Ohio Valley Regional Emmy Awards were announced on June 8 and Columbus has several people on that list. You may remember the music video “Visitor” by The Receiver. Last year, the producer of that video, Vital Film Works won an Emmy for it. Vital Film Works has been nominated again this year in two categories: Editor-Program for a music video they did for Trainwreck, a band headed up by Kyle Gass of Tenacious D, and Photographer – Short Form for Sweet Bean, a short promotional piece for American Sweet Bean Company in Northwest Ohio. WOSU has also been nominated for several Emmy awards, getting nominations in Arts/Entertainment – Program for the ArtZine Series and Documentary – Historical for the Short North and German Village installments of Columbus Neighborhoods.

John Daugherty of Vital Film Works shared a few more details with me on the pieces they did.

On Trainwreck: “We shot it over two days in Los Angeles and Bakersfield, CA on no budget and one week to plan. So it was literally thrown together. Three of us flew out on a Wednesday, concepting the whole thing on the plane. The main character in the video [below] at the beginning with the beard, was one of the crew guys that went with me, Lee Mason. He’s from here in Columbus.”

On Sweet Bean: “It was shot over one day last summer. James Godwin was the man behind the camera on the Sweet Bean piece so the award is largely due to his vision.”

WOSU also received nominations for Chefs in the City in the Informational/Instructional Program category and for Columbus on the Record – Series in the Politics/Government – Program category.

The Emmy Ceremony will be held July 30, 2011 at the Seelbach Hilton in Louisville, KY. You can view the entire list of nominees here. Congratulations and best of luck to our nominees!
