Nightlife Review: Kingmakers Board Game Parlour

Let’s be honest, Columbus’s nightlife scene can get pretty dry during the winter season. Besides lurking through bars and catching up on those Netflix series, options seem more limited when it’s cold out. But what if this entire winter, you’ve been overlooking a trending concept that’s the first of its kind in the city of Columbus? Well, Kingmakers Board Game Parlour, is exactly that. A venue with a selection of over 500 board games, happy hour specials, quarterly “Demo Days” where local game designers play test game prototypes, and comfy lounging chairs suitable for those even with the worst posture.

Board game parlours are a concept that have the ability to entertain groups of all ages all in one place, and for the past year, Kingmakers has been fortunate enough to share that experience in the Short North area.

Happy Hour is hosted Tuesday through Thursday with $2 off all taps and $1 off domestic cans from 5pm to 7pm. Kingmakers features four wines on tap, one for the red-heads and one for the white-heads, as well as two lines of Brothers Drake Mead.

There is also a rotating selection of eight craft beers, most of which tend to be from local breweries. For those looking to warm up, enjoy a cup of freshly brewed coffee drinks and teas. Visiting Kingmakers on an empty stomach isn’t recommended, as there is no full service kitchen, but the parlour does offer a largely local snack selection from companies such as Darista Dips, Krema Nut Company, and Rogue Bakery.

When visiting Kingmakers, be aware that there is a $5 per player Library Fee that allows the parlour to maintain and grow their Library. The cover charge is a flat fee and gives players access to all titles in the library for as long as they’d like during that visit.

Kingmakers is located off N. High St at 17 Buttles Ave Columbus, Oh 43215.
